Unit
One is Almost Over…
It’s hard to believe, but the
first month is over and we’re beginning the last week of our first
Unit, Cycle and Recycle. We’ve spent the month doing activities,
going places, reading, and talking about the need to reduce, reuse,
and recycle; the many ways in which life cycles interconnect; the importance
of the water cycle; and things we can do to make a difference for ourselves
and for the world.
We’ve enjoyed going outdoors,
seeing a wetland area, “adopting” trees, visiting the landfill,
making art and music, creating with Legos, playing games, solving puzzles,
learning some Greek roots for medical terms, beginning French, and doing
some sewing, cooking, and car mechanics. We’ve also had time
to relax, develop new friendships, and share our ideas.
Sadly, some families have left
us, feeling that ARCH Academy is not right for them. We miss them
greatly and hope that they might return in the future. Most families,
though, are happy and excited about the learning and activities that
go on at ARCH. We thank all of you for your support!
ARCH
Academy has MOVED!!
In July we were notified that our lease might not be renewed so we began looking for another location. We quickly found an ideal spot for ARCH and signed a 3-year lease so that we won’t think of moving again for a long time!
Our new building
is located on Richmond Ave. in Staunton (Hwy. 250) and is the former
location of the Sylvan Learning Center. We now have separate rooms
for different activities, but the rooms have large picture windows so
that the effect is still one of much open space. We have been
able to put most of our shelves and white boards from the former building
to good use here and are using new ways to add flexibility to our space.
Another benefit of this move is that we are now located by a neighborhood
with woods and fields and will be able to spend much time outside.
